Castanet is a percussion instrument which is a pair of clappers tied together on either side of a stick by a string. To play you would hold the stick firmly with one hand and then lightly beat it on the open palm of the other hand.
Rhythm and rhyme are enhanced greatly by this percussion instrument. It's the national instrument of Spain but was actually invented over 3000 years ago by the Phoenicians for religious ceremonies.
