Tangram is a seven piece puzzle who's origins can be traced to the Orient, later spreading  westward. While it's often said to be ancient, its existence has only been verified as far back as 1800.
The puzzle is made up of seven pieces called tans which fit together to form a square. The individual pieces are-
two large triangles, a medium size triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram.
